else you want. I can give all the riches of the world, a big palace, a big kingdom, a lot of wealth etc. Ask for anything but your third wish.” Yama wanted to test Nachiketa by luring5 him. However, Nachiketa remained firm. He said, “I do not want any riches of the world but only seek the answer to my question”. Yama was pleased with Nachiketa’s determination and courage. He then had a dialogue with Nachiketa and enlightened him on the nature of self.

1. What kind of cows was Vajashrava giving Brahmins? Would they be of any use?
2. Where did Vajashrava send Nachiketa in anger? What did Nachiketa do?
3. Facing the God of Death himself must be terrifying. How do you think Nachiketa was able to go to his abode and wait for three whole days without getting scared?
