P. 24

Once upon a time there was a young tree. He saw that all around him there were many big orange
trees.
The young tree tried to be like them. As the days turned into weeks, he tried his best to make bark and leaves like them. But sadly he could not and he felt bitter disappointment1 with his failure.
The little tree grew slowly.
One day, he saw that at the edge of the orchard2, there were trees that looked very different to the orange trees and had thorns. He also wanted to grow thorns and tried his best once again.
And yet again he failed – none would grow. The frustration that grew within him started to show. And he chased away the birds and the insects that once were his friends. Even though the orchard was bustling3 with life - he now felt completely and utterly alone.
