Once upon a time, Lord Buddha was sitting with his disciples. A man came and started abusing1 Lord Buddha in rude2 language. He spoke very badly about Lord Buddha for quite some time. Lord Buddha kept quiet. After the man finished talking, the disciples3 of
Lord Buddha were very angry and wanted to teach this impolite4 and rude man a lesson.
However, Lord Buddha politely asked the man who abused him, “Dear brother, if some guests come to your house and you offer them sweets but they refuse to take those sweets, what do you do?”. The man said, “What will I do? I will just keep the sweets for myself.” Lord Buddha then told politely, “You have used very bad language for me just now. I refuse to take those words. So they are all yours now”.
