Once there was a man who had four sons. They often argued that each of them were better than the other.
Their father wanted to teach them not to judge1 things by their appearance2 and to learn that patience and hard work can make every person successful. He thought of a good way to teach this.
One cold winter morning, he called his eldest son and asked him to go and observe a tree on the bank3 of the river in their village.
When he went and looked at the tree, it looked ugly, bent and twisted.
He came home and told his father what he had seen.
After some days, one lovely spring morning, the father called his second son and asked him to go and observe the same tree on the bank of the river.
To him, the tree looked full of tender4 green leaves and small buds.
