Brahmin: “My dear, winter starts tomorrow. It will be an extremely profitable season. So I will go to another village in search of donations. In honour of the sun, I would like you to give food to some Brahmin to the extent of your ability”.
His wife snapped at him harshly.
Wife: “Who would give food to a poor Brahman like you? Since I married you, I never tasted good food let alone gems and rings”.
Brahman: “My dear, do not say such things. Do not be greedy. Excessive greed is not good. Even the poor should give something according to his ability to the right person at the right time”.
Brahman: “These five are fixed for every man before he is born: How long he lives, his wealth, his learning, his fate and his tomb”.
Wife: “Very True. I believe I have a bit of sesame grain in the house. I will grind it into flour and feed a Brahman”.
The Brahman, having received her promise, went off to another village.
The wife softened the sesame grains in hot water, hulled and placed them in the hot sun and returned to her chores in the house.
Meanwhile a dog licked and ate the grains.
