Let’s listen to a story of kids in Ramnagar. Ramnagar had only one ground. Every evening boys used to gather and play cricket in the ground. They did not have a proper bat to play. So they cut a piece
of wood and used that piece of wood as a bat. Only Satish had a proper bat that his uncle had gifted him. Satish used to care for his bat very much. So much that only he used to play with it on the ground. Only problem was that he did not have anyone to play with other than his uncle himself. At times, his cousin brothers used to come and he allowed them to play with his bat. On the ground, he wondered how the other boys just played with the piece of wood. But yet he saw them having a lot of fun. They used to run, shout, cheer and enjoy their play. Satish once approached them and asked whether he could join too. The boys allowed him readily. Now Satish was part of their team. He used to play with his bat and not the wooden piece. He was hesitant to give his bat to others to play. The others used to ask for his bat but Satish never gave it. Now, Satish had learnt how to play well. He used to score good runs. Meanwhile, his friends’ wooden piece had started to wear out. So Satish’s side would lose whenever they played a game with the other neighbourhood boys from Sundarnagar. One day Satish felt bad. His friends’ hands used to get hurt when they hit the ball hard with their worn out wooden piece. He decided that day he will allow everyone to play with his bat even if his good bat could wear out. All his team was very excited to play with his bat. The next time they played with Sundarnagar, everyone from Ramnagar came to watch the game. Satish’s uncle, the sabjiwala, the cleaner were also there to cheer them all. Everyone made many runs and they won this time. Satish felt very happy now.
