Pavan learnt in a trip to Pragathinagar Lake that nature had given air everywhere. He was filled with wonder. He wanted to visit the lake again. He asked his father if they could go again in the evening.
His father said, “Yes, we can go.” Then in the evening they went together.
Pavan saw fish in the lake. He wondered, “How do the fish breathe? Will they not die if they don’t get air?” Little Pavan got confused. He asked his father, “Father, it seems God forgot to give air to the fish.. They don’t have any air like us. Will they not die? Let us take them out of the lake so they can breathe too.”
His father said, “Dear Pavan, Nature is kind to all. It is equal and uniform to all. How will the fish then not get the air in the water?” Pavan asked “How is that father?”
His father said, “Well, they get their air from water only. Water contains air which fish know how to take out. They have very special organs1 called gills2 on their sides. They use this to draw air from the water. In fact, they only get air from water. If we take them out, they will not be able to breathe because they have no nose. They will die if we take them out.”
Pavan thought, “Nature is indeed very kind. It has given even the fish in the water a way to breathe air, just like the birds, the trees and us too”.
We get air, the monkeys also get the same air and the cows also breath that same air. The bird that is flying so high also gets that air.
Pavan felt very very thankful to Nature for treating all beings uniformly and equally.
