Page 47 - Moral Stories Vol 5
P. 47

One sunny spring morning in the countryside, Feroz, a wealthy young city boy who was walking towards a farm, asked for a glass of milk and paid for it. He sat in the shade of a tree, broke his bread
into a few pieces and dropped them into the milk.
Fardeen, a poor boy from the nearby village, who was very pale because he was malnourished1, looked at Feroz and desired to share that glass of milk with him but he was too well mannered to ask.
Feroz noticed the boy and thought about leaving something in his glass for the other boy but did not do so. When he had finished drinking his milk he noticed some writing on the bottom of his glass and he began to blush. He immediately asked for another glass of milk and a large piece of bread. When they were brought to him, he called Fardeen, broke the bread as he had done for himself and told the boy to eat.
The phrase that he had seen at the bottom of the bowl read: “Those who forget the poor do not deserve their own food.” Feroz said to himself, “This is a phrase that should be inscribed3 on every dish that the rich own!”
Think and Answer:
1. If you were in Feroz’s place, what would you have done? 2. Do you agree with the saying “All are equal”?
3. Discuss the moral of the story with your friends.
Glossary:
1. Malnourished : suffering from malnutrition2
2. Malnutrition: lack of proper nutrition, caused by not having enough to eat
