In a village called Kanukunta, the people get their food by farming vegetables and food grains like rice and mangoes. They work hard every year by first preparing the soil, planting seeds and then waiting
for rain. Once the rains come, the seeds grow into crops.
After the rains, the crops give yield. All the villagers become happy because they get the crops for which they worked so hard. They keep some crops for themselves to eat and sell the rest in the nearby city. Once, there was a drought in the village. Without water, the crops did not grow properly and so the villagers did not get enough food. The people began to wonder how they would get food. Even the trees had dried out. Then five young people, led by a man called Raju, decided that they would find food in a nearby place. They set out and walked for a while till they came to a village called Dhobni, where there was no water either. However, the trees were lush green.
Raju thought deeply. He told his friends, “Brothers, the river is dry but the trees are lush green. That means that there is water in the ground. Let us dig a well here and then cultivate crops”.
